Affiliate Marketing in Nigeria

"
Nigeria's current population is 211,400,708, a 2.55% increase from 2020." According to Macrotrends

Statista.com places our current smartphone statistics to about 20-40 million as of 7th December 2020 when it was published on its website.

I tried searching online for any data on how many Nigerians know about Affiliate marketing. Your guess is as good as mine, Non!

It's not a big deal that we have no statistical data from Nigeria as regards affiliate marketing. So I asked Google Search how much the affiliate marketing industry is worth? $12 billion according to Nick Galov of Hosting Tribunal. I almost dropped my Mobile device! We have been sitting down and leaving so much money on the table.

As I read through the statistics of Affiliate Marketing, one thing I noticed is that it keeps growing with no sign of stopping soon. That means Nigerians can't be late to take advantage of the market. That's good news!!!

A huge percentage of us are below the 45 years mark but have suffered unemployment, endured bogus employment scams by uncles, aunties, our government, and so on.

We can't keep waiting for them, the answer is found in this post. Affiliate Marketing. Not the type that our teenage boys and girls and young adults in their early 20's are doing now for health products! Imagine if they can change the Modus Operandi of their marketing and work smarter. They would generate more leads, make more sales and stay at home. Away from the risk of the covid infection.

What is affiliate marketing?

Let me make this as simple as I can. I have a product to sell and I need people to help me advertise the product in such a way that when the person you refer views or buys a product from me, I will give you a percentage of the interest I have made.

Note that the buyer will not pay more than the value of the product, so what is split is the actual profit from the Sales of such products.

You can read in detail about how affiliate marketing works here.

But just so you get my point. Hundreds of brands are looking for people that will help them promote and share in the profit they make per product. I am talking of names like Amazon, eBay, Alibaba Express, and hundreds more like them.

Don't sit on the fence, jump over and share in this $12b market.

How to get started in Nigeria

I know you are pumped up and ready to have your share of the $12b pie from Affiliate marketing but there are a few things you need to know before you begin.

  1. AFFILIATE MARKETING IS NOT A GET RICH QUICK SCHEME: Becoming an affiliate is a trust. As an affiliate marketer, you become a brand ambassador of the merchant(s) whose product(s) you help promote. It takes time to make a huge commission that's why you must choose the best merchant(s), pick your promotional campaign carefully, know and master your market. All these take time, man-hours, sleepless nights and sometimes money - yes you heard me you would spend money to advertise the products especially if it's a high commission product.

  2. YOU HAVE TO APPLY, WAIT AND GET APPROVED TO BE AN AFFILIATE. IT IS NOT AUTOMATIC: You may hear of people making $500-1000 a week and think they just got lucky. They have to apply; convince the merchant that you can help them promote your product. They will go over your proposal and approve or deny you access to market their product based on their policies. I will drop a link at the end of this post for anyone who wants to start a career with Affiliate Marketing.

  3. BE READY TO INVEST TIME, CREATIVITY AND CASH: From my experience, there are three vital investments you must make to achieve success as an affiliate marketer. You must be ready to invest time. You must study market trends, sale strategies, and adopt adequate methods to have maximum reach and conversion. Your creativity is needed. You could write copies that are not properly formatted and don't carry the creative touch to generate views, clicks, or sales. The use of English or whatever language of your choice has to be mastered and used with skill and creativity. There are tons of free methods of creating awareness of products. Facebook was the best free advertising media for startups. But in this field of affiliate marketing, most links are blocked, banned or rejected by Facebook for violating their community policy. This can occur because another Affiliate might have spammed comments with their links with hopes of making a sale and people have reported it as spam. So you have to seek other ways of getting your product before your audience. Some ways include paying for explainer videos if you can't design one yourself, paying for Google Ads and running Ads with the target audience in mind.

  4. ALL AFFILIATE MERCHANTS DON'T ACCEPT NIGERIANS: I know you are thinking to yourself, did we scam them again? No, it's just that we are latecomers and the market where their product sells are the US and UK. The commission is very high but newcomers have a lot of new tricks to learn before they can gain access. Secondly, most of these merchants will pay you through PayPal. A platform we sadly do not have the receive payment option in Nigeria. So, look for high commission merchants with a payment that is flexible like Payoneer or Skrill to promote.

  5. USE THE PRODUCTS YOU SELL: this should probably be the first point. You would have a better product understanding of the products you want to market if you have used them. Your reviews, sales copy or email copy will be authoritative and in turn, give you a higher click-through rate and conversion. Another advantage of using the product is that you have personal testimony o the success and gain influencer status. Your YouTube or Facebook page will grow and your blog (I suggest you have one) will be the go-to place for first-hand information about the product you market.

Recommended Affiliate Markets

I have done a few reviews of viable markets for Nigerians. You can read that through this link

After careful online research, I have a few affiliate markets starters and struggling Affiliate marketers can start from.

I won't give specifics, but I will point you to the market.

  1. Web Hosting Companies: today the number of internet users have greatly increased. A lot of old companies are now seeking a block of the online market. They buy domains and host websites every day. Imagine, getting paid by web hosting companies for the traffic and sales they make. BlueHost gives $100 for first sales made by an affiliate and a reasonable commission for subsequent sales. WhoGoHost gives you NGN 500 bonus and the minimum payout is NGN 3,000. Others have good commissions too. Detailed list coming soon.

  2. Affiliate Marketing Companies: companies like Warrior+Plus, click bank, Digistore24 or JvZoo. Select products you can sell and enjoy huge commissions per sale.

  3. Marchant sites: big names like Amazon, eBay, Konga, Jumia and so many other merchant sites offer a decent commission on sales. All you need to know is here. Be sure to try out some of them and share your testimonies.

In conclusion, we are sitting on a gold mine and not doing anything about it. Make a move now! Become an Affiliate Marketer and start earning huge commissions on every $$ spent buying goods and services online.

I will see you at the top!
